Kyocera Supplies Solar Modules for World’s Largest Stadium-Integrated PV System in Switzerland

The world’s largest stadium-integrated photovoltaic system went into operation this week on the STADE DE SUISSE Wankdorf Bern. After the additional installation of 2,808 solar modules, the stadium now has 7,930 modules from the Japanese technology company Kyocera, providing an overall output of 1,346.774 kWp. The expanded system will produce 1,134,045 kWh per year and save on the emission of 630 tons of CO2 annually. (more…)

Premier Power Completes First Solar Power Installation at PG&E’s facilities in San Francisco

The completion of the solar power installation at one of Pacific Gas & Electric’s service facilities is the latest example of PG&E’s role in bringing solar power to San Francisco. Premier Power worked closely with PG&E to provide them with solar power systems that were both financially smart and practical.  The 207kW solar power system is comprised of two solar arrays; 127kW solar tracker and 80kw building integrated. The 80kW building integrated solar electric system, which features 368 of Sharp’s solar power modules, is made of 3 smaller arrays that include, two 15kW solar facades and one 50kW roof-top array. The 127kW single-axis solar electric tracker system, which features 588 of SunPower’s solar power modules, was designed for double-duty; not only do they shade and protect cars, they also provide steady, reliable solar power. The combined solar power systems will produce approximately 5,701,380 kWh over the system lifetime. (more…)

The Conergy AG, a listed firm, intends to quadruple its annual turnover in Italy in 2007 to at least 40 million euros. In order to further increase its market share in one of the world’s fastest-growing solar markets, the number of persons employed in Italy is to be increased to more than 200 on a mid-term basis. Globally, Conergy is looking to increase sales by 60 percent to 1.25 billion euros, and already employs some 2,500 persons in 26 countries, in order to grow much more rapidly than the market for renewable energy systems as a whole, which has a growth rate of about 25 percent.

Showa Shell to quadruple solar cell capacity with $128 million Japanese plant

Showa Shell Sekiyu, the Japanese unit of Royal Dutch Shell, will build a plant to make solar-powered cells in Japan, quadrupling its capacity.  The company plans to construct its second factory in Japan’s southwestern prefecture of Miyazaki, at a cost of ¥15 billion, or $128 million, to produce solar-powered cells that can collectively generate 60 megawatts of electricity annually, Showa Shell, which is based in Tokyo, said Wednesday. The new plant would be adjacent to the company’s existing 20 megawatt cell plant.
