The Rainbow Ridge School near Nimbin needs nothing more than some sunshine for its electricity needs.  The school has installed a $50,000 off-grid solar power system updating the previous 12 volt system.  The school administrator, Christina Rubsamen, wants the new system to become interactive by selling solar-generated electricity back to the grid during holiday periods.

She says the upgraded system is efficient and in keeping with the Steiner education school’s environmental values.  “We decided when we started the school that we wanted environmental sustainability, and that we wanted to have [a] solar system for our power supply, and our original plan was to go grid-interactive,” she said.  “But unfortunately we weren’t able to bring the mains to the school, so we then decided to upgrade.”
