Chinese company, Yingli Solar plans to increase its presence in the European market by making use of the profile of the solar plant at Moura in Portugal, the director of the company’s International Market Department, Pang Chou said in Beijing Tuesday. Speaking to Portuguese news agency, Pang said that the Chinese solar cell and panel producer also planned to increase its presence on the Portuguese market.
“Portugal, due to its geographic location, is clearly superior for production of solar energy. The country has the conditions to become a big producer of solar energy and we really want to increase our cooperation with Portuguese companies,” said Pang.
In November 2006 Yingli Solar signed a contract for supplying solar panels to Spanish company Acciona, which manages the Moura plant. Acciona has aid that it may buy a further 20 megawatts of capacity from Yingli for the second phase of construction of the Portuguese plant. “The contract with Acciona is very important for us,” Pang said.
The first phase of the Moura plant, which has an installed capacity of 42 megawatts, is scheduled to be concluded in 2008, whilst the second phase, with a 20 megawatt capacity is expected to be finished in 2010.
Yingli Solar, a private company set up in 1998, aims to become one of the world’s main solar companies, the company’s management team has said, adding that its medium term target is to increase its panel production to 600 megawatts per year. (macauhub)
