Carmanah’s Power Systems Group has received an order for an initial 39 units of its stand-alone, fully-integrated MAPPS solar power systems to be installed at the US Army Base, Camp Arifjan, in Kuwait. These systems will be used by a defense contractor to power radio-frequency identification (RFID) readers to track inventory at the base. In addition to this order, Carmanah has negotiated an ongoing supply contract for future MAPPS solar power systems, as required.
RFID, an automatic identification method, relies on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders, and have become and essential part of modern military supply chain operations. Because of the sensitivity of the equipment, these readers require a reliable and continuous power source. When the customer discovered the complex bureaucracy involved in securing power from the local utility company, as well as the reality of unreliable and intermittent service, it contacted Carmanah to explore solar power as an alternative solution.
Carmanah’s MAPPS solar power systems are the only integrated, turnkey solar power systems currently available that have been specifically designed for remote industrial applications. In fact, they can even be approved for Class I, DIV. II hazardous locations. In addition to powering the RFID tracking system mentioned above, Carmanah’s MAPPS solar power systems are also an ideal stand-alone power solution for applications such as:
– Video surveillance – Perimeter Security
– Homeland security – Water Resource Security
– Pipeline monitors – Construction Sites
– Security Lighting – Motion Sensing
– Remote Communications – Emergency Calls
Thousands of Carmanah’s MAPPS solar power systems have been deployed around the world over the past 15 years. They are field-proven to endure the extremely harsh environments found at many remote locations. As they are shipped as complete, easy-to-assemble kits, MAPPS systems can be installed quickly with minimal technical expertise.
