February 12, 2007 (Guelph,Ontario) – Guelph Hydro Inc, the parent company of Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc and Ecotricity Guelph Inc, today announced that it will support The Sunpark Challenge, an ambitious project to develop Canada’s first solar park. The Sunpark Challenge, lead by Sunpark Energy Corp. is inviting Canadian corporations to create a better planet for future generations by sponsoring the solar panels that make up the solar park.

Companies that support the project receive advertising and promotional opportunities in recognition of their contribution to the environment. The Challenge uses solar panels to convert sunlight into clean, non-polluting electricity for use in homes, schools and businesses in Ontario. The panels used in a solar park do not emit any greenhouses gases that can cause global warming or climate change and are capable of producing electricity in a safe, environmentally friendly way for many decades. .

“Guelph Hydro sets a very high standard of environmental performance, both for its own community and elsewhere,” said Peter Henderson, chief financial officer for Guelph Hydro Inc. “Our support of the Sunpark Challenge is just one more way that we can contribute to initiatives that reduce pollution and climate change.”

Guelph Hydro Inc is already an active participant in the renewable energy field. Its Guelph headquarters facility recently won the City of Guelph award for excellence in urban design and environmental innovation. The building is one of the largest renewable energy business sites in southwestern Ontario.
Its subsidiary, Ecotricity Guelph operates a landfill gas energy plant at the Eastview landfill facility in the city. The plant was the first renewable energy project in the province to begin operation as a result of the Ontario government’s renewable procurement process.

“We are delighted that Guelph Hydro Inc is supporting this initiative, one that helps to create a culture of conservation in society, both locally and provincially”, said Richard Mash, president of Sunpark Energy.
