Plextronics, Inc., a world leader in developing active layer technology for printed electronic devices, today announced that it received the Clean Energy Entrepreneur of the Year award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) at the 19th NREL Industry Growth Forum.
The Clean Energy Entrepreneur of the Year competition was developed to promote and support the creation of world-class businesses delivering clean energy technology options into the energy market. Clean energy options are essential to realizing energy security, economic benefits, and sustainable development for the U.S. and the world at large. The award was given to the company that has the best chance of future success and who, in the judges’ opinion, made the best overall presentation at the forum.
“We are honored by this award and would like to thank the judges and NREL for recognizing the potential of Plextronics’ Plexcore™ technology,” stated Andrew Hannah, Plextronics’ President and CEO. “We are committed to delivering revolutionary renewable energy products based on Plexcore™ including organic solar cells and white lighting with the goal of providing both an economic and environmental benefit.”
“We are pleased to present Plextronics with this award and look forward to charting the future progress of this highly promising entrepreneurial company,” said Forum Chairman Lawrence (Marty) Murphy of NREL. “Thirty four of 106 applicant companies were selected by investors to make a presentation at the Forum, and of these thirty-four entrepreneurial companies, the forum investor panelists chose Plextronics as having the strongest overall business case and presentation. Our congratulations for a job very well done.”
Additionally, Hannah praised the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and its Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for its leadership in developing an aggressive Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard, which is one of the most progressive in the nation, ensuring that 18 percent of all retail energy generated by 2020 comes from clean, efficient and advanced resources. Plextronics has been awarded $1.3 million in grants and loans through the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority to advance its organic photovoltaic program. “The Commonwealth and DEP have been great partners and advocates of our company and our Plexcore PV solar cell technology,” commented Hannah. “Their support has enabled us to accelerate our development efforts.”
DEP Secretary Kathleen A. McGinty praised Plextronics for winning the Clean Energy Entrepreneur of the Year award and said, “DEP is committed to working with innovative companies like Plextronics to advance and accelerate the deployment of affordable solar power .
