Haryana wins first price for best performance in Solar Urban Areas Program

Haryana has bagged the first prize in the country for its best performance in Solar Urban Areas Programme and in Solar Cooker Programme. It has also won second prize in Solar Photovoltaic Demonstration Programme at the national level. Stating this here today, the Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that these National Awards are being given on the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. He further said that Haryana has bagged maximum awards in the country. The President of India Smt.Pratibha Devisingh Patil will give away these awards in a ceremony on 22nd November, 2007 at New Delhi.
On behalf of Haryana Government, Smt.Sumita Misra, IAS, Director,Renewable Energy Department & Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) will receive these awards.Giving details, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Chander Mohan informed that under the Solar Cooker Programme, the Haryana Government is promoting the use of box and dish type solar cookers with an objective to conserve conventional fuels like fuel wood, kerosene, LPG etc. in the cooking sector.
During the Tenth Five Year Plan period 1983 box type and 6329 dish type solar cookers were provided in the State with a total cost of Rs.3.48 crores out of which Rs.89.01 lacs was borne by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India and Rs.47.11 lakh was shared by the State Govt. The cost of a dish type solar cooker is Rs.5100/- and it can cook food for about 10-15 persons and save up to 10 LPG cylinders in a year.
He further informed that Haryana is the first State in the country todemonstrate the applications of solar photo voltaic technology to create awareness about the benefits of solar photovoltaic devices in urban areas and also to reduce the burden on conventional electricity in cities/ towns and divert the energy saved to small towns and villages that face acute shortage of power.
Under the this Programme, 100 Street Light Solar Charge Controller for auto switching of street lights, 325 Solar Street Lights, 5 Solar Powered Traffic Signals, 400 Solar Road Studs, 50 Solar Blinkers and 3 Solar Power Packs were installed in the areas of Municipal Councils/ Corporations of Rohtak,Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hisar and Panchkula Districts of the State during the year 2005-06 with a total cost of. Rs.1.97 Crores, out of which, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India provided financial assistance of Rs.67.00 lacs,State Government Rs.30.50 lakh and the balance cost of Rs.99.50 lacs was borne by the concerned Municipal Councils/ Corporations. Under Phase-II of this Programme,Rs.4.32 crores are being spent in Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Y.Nagar, Jagadhri, Karnal, Rewari, Hisar, Sirsa, Jind, Kaithal and Faridabad Districts of the State.
Mr.Chander Mohan further said that under SPV Demonstration Programme,various devices like solar lantern, solar home lighting systems and solar street lighting systems are provided to the people and panchayats to meet their lighting requirements. During the Tenth Five Year Plan period, 8000 Solar Lanterns were provided to the individuals with a total cost of Rs.2.64 crores out of which, the State Government provided Rs.1.20 crores.
