Shanghai Aerospace Automobile Electromechanical Co., Ltd. (SHSE: 600151), a renewable energy developer and automobile parts manufacturer, plans to raise at most CNY 1.8 billion by additionally issuing three shares to every ten shares its shareholders have.  The raised fund will be used to enlarge the share capital of Inner Mongolia Shenzhou Silicon Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Shenzhou New Energy Development Co., Ltd., and finance a 150MW solar cell project of Shanghai Shenzhou. Wal-Mart and BP Solar announce Chino, CA solar power pilot project

Wal-Mart, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) and BP Solar today announced the completion of a 591.6 kilowatt (kW) solar power system at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Chino, California. The system consists of over 3,400 modules and will provide approximately 18 percent of the store’s electricity.  This store is part of Wal-Mart’s major purchase of solar power from BP Solar and other solar power providers for approximately 22 Wal-Mart stores, Sam’s Clubs and distribution centers in Hawaii and California. The stores included in the projects are expected to achieve immediate savings over their current utility rates upon day one of operation. (more…)

BP Solar to Install One of the Largest Solar Electric Power Systems for a U.S. Educational Facility in Colorado

Colorado State University-Pueblo soon will be the home of a solar electric system in excess of one megawatt, one of the largest such systems for an education facility in the United States. Under this innovative arrangement with Black Hills Energy (formerly Aquila) and BP Solar, the system is estimated to contribute more than 10 percent of the University’s electricity needs. Installation of the ground- based solar array will begin in July with full operation scheduled for late this fall. (more…)

Trina Solar Limited, a leading integrated manufacturer of photovoltaic products from the production of ingots, wafers and cells to the assembly of PV modules, founded in 1997, today announced that it has entered into a sales agreement with Enel.si S.r.l, (“Enel.si”), a subsidiary of Enel SpA (collectively “Enel”), Italy’s largest power company, listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.  Under terms of the two-year agreement, Trina Solar will supply Enel with a total of 17 megawatts (MW) of PV modules starting in 2008, which includes 15 MW of scheduled delivery for 2009 at fixed prices. New module packaging system of Solar-Fabrik AG cuts transport costs by 57%

Solar-Fabrik has adopted a new packaging system that will deliver immediate and substantial transport cost savings for customers. The new system allows vertical stacking and will accommodate 21 SF 200A series modules per pallet for a total of 504 modules per truck. Compared to 320 modules per truck under the old system, this translates as a huge 57% cost saving.  The new, patented system was developed in partnership by Solar-Fabrik AG and the manufacturer of the system. Twenty-one modules are loaded onto the pallet in upright position, secured with plastic corners, wrapped with stretch film and stabilised with strapping tape. The previously used cardboard boxes are no longer necessary. The pallet length (1.20 m) is the same as the length of a Europallet, the width is tailored to the dimension of the module. This allows optimum use of the available truck loading surface. (more…)

Solar modules manufactured by Solar-Fabrik AG have been installed in what is currently the largest solar installation in Greece. This freestanding installation with an output of 400 kW is located in Sidirokastron, a town 80 km north-east of Thessaloniki. The complete plant was supplied by Yoku Technology GmbH, an important business partner of Solar-Fabrik AG. Planning and installation was carried out by NRG-Orion, Thessaloniki. (more…)

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced it will design and install the core process and safety systems for a new plant under construction by Hoku Materials, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hoku Scientific, Inc. that is planned to produce polysilicon, a key material needed to produce solar panels. The solar power market is currently estimated to be a $10 billion business, with realistic potential to expand to $30 billion by 2010.
