GT Solar has announced the signing of a $56 million contract with Yingli Green for the next generation of silicon ingot furnaces — the DSS450 from GT Solar. This is Yingli’s fourth and largest order of GT Solar’s DSS furnaces that grow multi-crystalline ingots up to 450kg, and the purchase is expected to bring Yingli’s installed furnace capacity up to approximately 600 megawatts (MW) in 2009.

Tishman Speyer officials and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said today the company has installed 363 solar panels on the roof of 45 Rockefeller Plaza, making it the largest privately owned solar energy generation station in Manhattan.  The officials also announced the installation of a “green roof” atop Radio City Music Hall and an ice chiller plant at Rockefeller Center to help cool the complex and reduce energy consumption. The announcements came this morning during a press conference at 45 Rockefeller Plaza, where they also said the latest in energy-efficient LED lights will make the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree truly a “green” tree this year.

Canadian Solar Announces Agreement with China Sunergy

Canadian Solar Inc. (“the Company”, or ”CSI”) today announced that it had entered into various purchase agreements (the ”Agreements”) last week with China Sunergy Co., Ltd. (”China Sunergy”).  The Agreements with China Sunergy are for a total volume of 25MW of solar cells for 2008. Under the Agreements, China Sunergy will supply approximately 12MW and 13MW of solar cells to Canadian Solar in the first and second half of the year respectively. The Agreements will be denominated in both Chinese Yuan and US dollars, with approximately 24% of the volume being based on fixed pricing terms and the remainder being determined on a quarterly basis.
