Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (NYSE: YGE) (“Yingli Green Energy” or the “Company”), one of the world’s leading vertically integrated photovoltaic (“PV”) product manufacturers, today announced that it has entered into a sales contract with GOLDBECK Solar GmbH (“GOLDBECK Solar”), a leading German PV system specialist company for PV applications on industrial buildings. Under the terms of the contract, Yingli Green Energy is expected to supply a minimum of 15 MW of PV modules to GOLDBECK Solar in 2009. In addition, the contract provides a framework for GOLDBECK Solar to purchase up to an additional 58 MW of PV modules from Yingli Green Energy in 2009. (more…)

Solar Power, Inc. has completed its first sale to a prominent German solar integrator of its photovoltaic (“PV”) solar modules for use in the integrator’s Germany-based installation projects. An initial supply of SPI’s 200-watt panels was shipped to the integrator at the end of December 2008. The transaction follows IEC certification in early December 2008 of SPI’s family of solar modules by VDE laboratories located in Main, Germany. The IEC certification, similar to a UL listing in the United States, affirms the solar modules’ quality and performance characteristics for use in Europe for commercial and residential applications. Solar Power, Inc.  has entered into a one-year supply agreement with JA Solar Holding Co., Ltd. (“JA Solar”). JA Solar has committed to supply up to 60 megawatts of its 6” polycrystalline photovoltaic (“PV”) cells based on monthly requirements from SPI. Based in Hebei, China, JA Solar is one of the world’s top producers of high-performance solar cells. The cells will be used for the ongoing production of SPI’s solar modules and to meet growing demand for the company’s products in Europe, Asia, and for turnkey systems in the United States. Spectrawatt halts construction plans for new plant in Hillsboro

SpectraWatt Inc., an Intel spinoff that planned to make solar cells in Hillsboro, may leave Oregon because it can’t find financing to build a plant.  Andrew Wilson, SpectraWatt’s chief executive, confirmed Wednesday that the company had suspended construction plans and was searching inside and outside the state for an existing building to retrofit for less money. Suntech’s new HQ Suntech Power Holdings has celebrated realising its stated goal in 2008 of reaching its production target of 1GW in both solar cell and module capacity, claiming to be the first to achieve both milestones. Suntech also announced the opening of a new Headquarters in Wuxi, China, its centre for manufacturing, which employs what it claims is the largest building integrated solar façade, producing a grid-connected 1MW. Japan plans to bring back subsidies for solar panel equipment from January, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Wednesday, as the world’s fifth-biggest emitter struggles to cut its greenhouse gas emissions.  METI said the government would offer 9 billion yen ($99.6 million) in the first quarter of 2009 and possibly more in the fiscal year starting next April to foster use of solar panel equipment in homes. China Plans World’s Largest Solar Power Plant

Two Chinese companies have proposed a massive, 1-gigawatt solar photovoltaic power plant in China’s northwest, one that would be the worlds biggest if it’s completed.  The China Technology Development Group Corp. (NSDQ: CTDC) and Qinghai New Energy Co. announced this week that they had formed an agreement with local Chinese officials to start the project, according to a report from research firm JL McGregor & Company.  The project in Qinghai’s Qaidam Basin will start out in 2009 with a more modest initial goal of 30 megawatts at a cost of 1 billion Yuan ($146 million), and will combine crystalline silicon and thin-film solar panels, the firm reported. The timeline and projected cost of the entire 1-gigawatt project were not disclosed. (more…)

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announced today that it has entered into a long-term agreement with El Dorado Energy, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sempra Generation, to purchase 10 megawatts of renewable, photovoltaic solar energy from Sempra Generation’s new El Dorado Energy Solar facility in Nevada.
