Aleo solar AG can report new orders from Italy: A number of specialist dealers and fitters have placed orders for aleo modules totalling EUR 12 million. Roof-mounted installations up to 50 kW in particular will be completed, as they attract high feed-in tariffs in Italy. These contracts will allow Aleo solar AG to significantly expand its Italian customer base. They will increase Aleo solar AG´s total international order volume for 2007 to approx. EUR 60 million by the end of July. aleo solar has had a sales team in Italy since mid-2006. Simplified legislation was passed in Italy at the beginning of 2007. aleo´s sales team was expanded in April and its strong specialist dealer support was presented at the “Solarexpo” trade fair in Verona.

The specialist in CIGS solar cells plans to use the money to build factories for producing the panels.

Despite recent hiccups, the CIGS train rolls on. HelioVolt, which specializes in copper-indium-germanium-selenide (CIGS) solar cells, has raised $77 million in a second round of financing, some of which comes from a fund out of the oil-rich sultanate of Abu Dhabi.  The money will be used to build factories. HelioVolt hopes to start limited production in the middle of next year and ramp to full production by the first quarter of 2009, CEO B.J. Stanbery said in an interview. (more…)

ACCIONA Energy has announced it has closed a $266 million long-term project financing for  Nevada Solar One, its 64-megawatt Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant, the largest solar power plant built in the world in 16 years. The deal represents the first leveraged lease structured financing for a CSP plant in the United States. BP Solar and Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley break ground today on what is now a $97 million expansion project that will further bolster the facility’s output of solar energy products. Pfäffikon, Switzerland-based thin film production equipment supplier Oerlikon Solar reported today it has signed a contract with Taiwan-based CMC Magnetics Corp. (CMC) for the supply of a 40-MW peak (MWp) thin-film solar cell production plant.  Last week, news reports stated that CMC, Taiwan’s top compact disk maker, plans to set up a new firm to make solar cells and will likely list the unit in 2009, as it seeks to tap growing demand for alternative energy sources. The first components from the plant are to be shipped to CMC this year with production planned for mid-2008.

CMC Magnetics, the largest maker of optical discs in Taiwan, will establish a subsidiary, Sun Well Technology, to produce thin film solar cell modules, according to a decision made by the company’s board of directors at a meeting on July 19.  Sun Well will have registered capital of NT$1.5 billion (US$45.7 million), with the planned initial paid-in capital of NT$700 million to be solely invested by CMC, according to CMC vice president and spokesperson Andrea Wong.
