Sinoar starts operations at new thin-film solar cell plant in Taiwan

Sinoar has held the opening ceremony at its new thin-film solar production plant at Hsinchu, Taiwan. The company will soon enter volume production with annual capacity set at 15 peak megawatt (MWp) initially, according to the company.  The company’s first solar-cell production plant was built in 1989 with test production completed in 1991. The second plant will enter operation immediately, said the company adding that second-phase expansion is already underway. The company plans to add another 35MWp capacity at the plant in the future with annual capacity expected to exceed 50MWp in the third quarter of 2008.

Canadian Solar and Ra Solar Espana Complete a 2.8MW Solar Farm Project in Spain

Canadian Solar Inc. (“the Company,” ”CSI,” or ”we”) and Ra Solar Espana today held the official opening of a 2.8MW solar farm project in Albacore, Spain. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Dutch ambassador and the Director of Industry of Castilla la Mancha. The solar park, one of the largest photovoltaic plants in Spain, is expected to supply enough energy for 1,500 families. (more…)

Mass. Water Resource Authority and Borrego Solar Help State Make Strides Toward 250 mW Goal

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) has awarded Borrego Solar Systems, Inc. the design and installation of 100 kilowatts of solar power for the Deer Island Water Treatment plant in Winthrop, Massachusetts.  The solar installation, due to be completed by the end of 2007, is projected to generate over 100,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, and is the first of 12 major solar projects slated for completion over the next year in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  The MWRA issued a statement saying, “We are very enthusiastic about this project as it is the first such contract of this type that we have awarded in the history of the MWRA.” (more…)

Under the terms of the equipment purchase agreement, LDK Solar will purchase two readily available Siemens technology-based reactors and related plant equipment from Sunways. Under the terms of the agreement, pricing and quantity is fixed for the first three years. During this period, LDK Solar will deliver multicrystalline solar wafers to Mosel Vitelic valued at approximately US$190 million with delivery commencing in 2008.
