Amtech Systems, Inc. Canadian Solar Inc (Nasdaq: CSIQ) today announced that CSI and Becancour Silicon Inc. (“BSI”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Timminco Limited (“Timminco”)(TSX: TIM), have confirmed that, in connection with the long term supply contract originally signed on April 4, 2007, the companies have together achieved certain milestones for delivery, consistency and quality of BSI’s solar grade UMG silicon. These achievements enable CSI to formally launch its e-Module product at the Intersolar Trade Show in Munich June 12-14th. Canadian Solar Inc. This BIPV project sits right on the axis of Beijing, symbolizing the nation’s increasing commitment to sustainable development. Over its 25-year operating lifespan, this solar power system, with modules horizontally placed for aesthetic purpose, will still generate more than 1,925,000 Kilowatt hours and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2750 tons.

Tata Agrico, a division of Tata Steel, has entered into an agreement with Tata BP Solar for distributing solar products of the latter, primarily in the rural hinterland of the country.  This initiative is primarily aimed at targeting consumers who are deprived of regular electricity supplies owing to poor infrastructure, a press release issued here today stated.

Tata Agrico would be leveraging its extensive distribution network in the country to promote the solar products of Tata BP.Both the companies would primarily focus on products such as solar lanterns, street-lights and water-heating systems, the release said. The companies see a huge potential in both rural and semi-urban markets and have decided to start this partnership from Bihar in June which will be followed by a nation-wide roll-out, the release said.

Enfinity Signs 25 MW Solar Power Plant Framework Agreement with SunPower

Enfinity, a global developer of renewable energy projects, today announced that it has entered into framework agreement with SunPower Corporation (Nasdaq: SPWR), a manufacturer of high-efficiency solar cells, solar panels, and solar systems, to provide turn-key engineering, procurement and construction services for solar electric power plant projects totaling more than 25 megawatts. The installations contemplated under this agreement will be built as from 2008 till 2009 by SunPower in Italy and are contingent on Enfinity to secure financing and construction permits for the projects.  Sunpower and Enfinity are in discussion to expand their collaboration to include additional solar projects in Spain, Greece and other countries worldwide. Japanese trading house Itochu Corp said it has bought 10 percent of unlisted Norwegian solar power technology firm Scatec As for 1.3 billion yen ($12.4 million) to join development of solar facilities in Europe.  Itochu already holds a stake in Scatec’s group company Norsun, which is building a plant to produce monocrystalline silicon wafers used in solar cells.
