Despite Kenmos Technology having refuted speculation about its potential investment in thin-film solar cell production, the backlight unit (BLU) maker today posted a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) officially announcing its investment in a solar-cell affiliate. Kenmos indicated that its board of directors approved the investment in a solar-cell affiliate in which it will hold a 45% stake. The company said the remaining stake will be held by overseas equipment and channel distributors, but did not reveal further details.
The company will make the investment in the fourth quarter of 2007 with funds coming from existing funds and loans. Initial capital in the affiliated company will be NT$1 billion (US$30.16 million) with an annual capacity of 10 peak megawatt (MWp). Kenmos expects the capacity will ramp up to 30MWp in two years.
