KARACHI: The Government of Sindh would introduce low cost scheme for provision of solar energy through modern technology in the next financial year. This was announced by the Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Information Technology, Muhammad Noman Saigal, here on Wednesday.

He said that this would help provide facilities to the common man through the use of modern technology. The adviser was talking to reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Smart Green Energy Project for the Masses. The MoU to this effect was signed by Gerd Michael Burow of Future Environment Solutions Holding a German firm, and Secretary Sindh IT Department, Yahya Waliullah.

Saigal said on the occasion that for provision of solar electricity to a residential unit, the Government of Sindh would make available the microfinancing facility. He said that for a Rs30,000 project, there would be a down payment of Rs3,000 while the rest of the amount is payable in easy monthly installments in four years’ time. The adviser said that a solar energy unit can provide electricity to a housing unit for 20 years.
