Kansai Electric Power Co Inc, Sakai City and Sharp Corp announced that they will jointly promote the Mega Solar Power Generation Plan with the aim of constructing 10MW-class solar power generation facilities on the waterfront in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
Under the plan, mega solar power generation facilities are scheduled for construction at the following two locations.
(1) Sakai No. 7-3 District Solar Power Generation Plant (tentative name)
Output: approx. 10MW (10,000kW); The plant will be built by Kansai Electric in Sakai No. 7-3 District, an industrial waste landfill in Nishi Ward, Sakai City.
(2) Sakai Manufacturing Complex Solar Power Generation Facilities (tentative name)
Maximum output: approx. 18MW (18,000kW); During the initial phase after the launch of Sharp’s Sakai Plant in 2010, the output of the facilities will be approximately 9MW (9,000kW).
Sharp and Kansai Electric will install solar power generation facilities on roofs, etc of Sharp’s and related companies’ plants in the complex. The complex will use the power generated by the facilities. The solar cell systems of the facilities will use Si solar modules, which will be produced at Sharp’s new solar cell plant that is scheduled to go on stream by March 2010.
