Japanese car manufacturer Honda Motor will add 120 more outlets in 2008 to its existing 80 independent stores retailing its solar panels. Honda also plans to venture into overseas sales to compete against Sharp and Kyocera. The solar panels retail for $541 (60,000 yen). It measures 1.4 meters by 80 centimeters, and weighs 14.3 kilograms. It can be mounted on the roof or placed on open space free-standing to tap solar rays capable of generating 125 watts of electric power.
Because of the healthy sale of the solar panels, Honda is developing another green product capable of producing hydrogen at home. The hydrogen can power fuel-cell vehicles. Honda plans to mass produce it by 2015, the Japan Times reported.
Honda’s stocks closed at $33.89 per share on Tuesday’s trading at the New York Stock Exchange. Stock analysts believe the robust sales of Honda’s solar panel can further boost its share price. Yasuhiro Matsumoto, senior analyst of Shinsei Securities, said, “Honda is putting together pieces of puzzle to find a way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.”
