Bharat Electronics mulls Rs 1,500-cr Joint Venture in solar energy space

Bangalore City-based public sector undertaking (PSU), Bharat Electronics (BEL), said it is planning a major investment in the solar energy space in a tie-up with another PSU, Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel).  BEL is in the process of setting up a greenfield facility to produce 2,500 tonnes of polycrystalline silicon (also known as polysilicon), the main raw material for making solar panels, at an investment of Rs 1,500 crore. This translates into 250 mw of power. This will be the first major facility for manufacturing a raw material for solar panels by BEL, which is a leading manufacturer of solar panels in the country. First Solar Inc. announced that the first of its four solar module manufacturing plants being constructed at the Kulim Hi Tech Park in Kedah, Malaysia was formally inaugurated by YAB Dato’ Seri Ustaz Azizan Bin Abdul Razak, Chief Minister of Kedah Darul Aman and Bruce Sohn, President of First Solar. Canadian Solar Inc.today announced a 9MW sales agreement for its e-Modules with Conergy USA, a global leader in renewable energy solutions. Solarfun and Schüco Enter Into 47 MW Sales Contract

Solarfun Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: SOLF), an established manufacturer of photovoltaic (“PV”) cells, modules and ingots in China, today announced that one of its wholly owned subsidiaries has entered into a 47.0 MW sales contract with Schüco International KG (“Schüco”), a leading PV system provider in Europe. Under the terms of the agreement, Solarfun has agreed to supply a total of 47.0 MW of PV modules to Schüco at a fixed price to be delivered according to a binding delivery schedule from December 2008 to October 2009. Solarfun signs long-term supply agreement with GCL Silicon Technology

Under an agreement dated June 22, 2008, GCL Silicon Technology will supply Solarfun with virgin polysilicon sufficient to produce approximately 1.2 gigawatts (“GW”) of solar modules in aggregate over eight years. Deliveries begin immediately. This agreement provides further security for the Company’s ability to meet its polysilicon needs and reach its target of 160 to 180 MW of module shipments in 2008. LG completes S. Korea’s biggest solar plant

LG Solar Energy, an affiliate of LG Group, has completed the nation’s biggest solar energy plant here in the western coastal region and started producing electricity. The facility, which is the result of some 110 billion won investment by teaming up with the local government on some 300,000 square meters of land, will have a 14-megawatt total output capacity, which is enough to meet the power needs of 8,000 households around the region, a company spokesman said. The Noida-based Moser Baer, makers of optical storage products, will soon roll out the largest solar photo voltaic (SPV) panels ever fabricated in India — 5.7 sq. metres — making it the biggest customer in the country for the U.S.-based Applied Materials.  The SPV manufacturing process that is in final pre-production trials is based on the SunFab thin film line technology sourced from a global leader in nano manufacturing solutions for the semiconductor, flat panel display and solar photo panel industry, which has had an Indian marketing and development presence since 2002. Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (NYSE: YGE) (“Yingli Green Energy” or the “Company”), one of the world’s leading vertically integrated photovoltaic (“PV”) product manufacturers, today announced that it has entered into a sales contract with EN-NEO NEUE ENERGIEN GmbH (“EN-NEO”), one of the leading specialists in PV energy projects worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement, Yingli Green Energy is expected to supply 9.19 MW of PV modules to EN-NEO from October 2008 to December 2008.
