The China government plans to sharply raise the 2020 goal for the total installation volume of photovoltaic (PV) power-generating systems around the country from 1.8GWp currently to 10GWp or even 20GWp, industry sources in Taiwan cited China-based media as reporting.
Wang Zhongying, assistant director of the Energy Research Institute under China’s National Development and Reform Commission, reportedly disclosed the revised plan at an international PV conference in Shanghai on May 6, the sources said.
Since setting the original target in 2007, China’s PV industries have been developing much faster than expected, and international prices for solar energy materials and products have drastically dropped since the second half of 2008, the sources indicated. This is the main reason for the China government to revise the goal, the sources explained.
