Aleo Solar takes next order (five times larger) from PowerLight Corporation

Oldenburg / Prenzlau, 19 December 2006. The solar module specialist and systems supplier aleo solar AG is expanding its business with the California-based solar systems provider PowerLight Corporation. In 2007, Aleo Solar will produce up to 50,000 solar modules for the U.S. corporation. The cooperation, which started in September 2006 with the production of 10,000 modules, will be successfully continued.

“Our expertise in OEM production is more and more requested by our clients and other market partners. The solar cells will be made available by PowerLight and processed into modules in our facility in Prenzlau,”says Heiner Willers, a member of the management board of aleo solar AG. The solar modules aleo solar will deliver to PowerLight sum up to a nominal capacity of at most 10 megawatts.

This new order for 2007, which is five times larger than the last one, shows to Jakobus Smit, who is also a member of the management board of aleo solar, that aleo’s strategy is paying off: “Our expertise in module production is valued abroad. We enable our partners to offer high-performance modules to their customers.” Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has pushed the California PV market in the last few months by signing “Solar Bill 1” and the “Global Warming Solutions Act” which is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Selling surplus solar power to the utilities is being promoted by these laws. A goal of 3,000 megawatts will be installed on California facilities through 2016.

PowerLight Corporation, based in Berkeley (Calif.), is a leading global provider of large-scale solar power systems, having designed and deployed hundreds of large-scale solar systems with a total capacity of more than 100 megawatts over the past ten years.

The company Aleo Solar AG, with its sales and distribution facilities in Oldenburg (Lower Saxony) and manufacturing facility in Prenzlau (Brandenburg), was founded in September 2001 and manufactures solar modules based on silicon cells. The manufacturing facility in Prenzlau has an annual capacity of 90 megawatts and is thus one of the largest solar module production sites. In 2005, the company achieved a turnover of 106.9 million euros with around 230 employees.

Since July 2006, Aleo Solar AG (DE000A0JM634) has been listed on the Prime Standard segment of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. By acquiring shares in the Brandenburg-based technology company Johanna Solar Technology GmbH, aleo solar AG has gained access to the promising future of thin-film technology.
