At this year’s Intersolar, SCHOTT Solar will be introducing the new framed version of the ASI F-90 thin-film module. In comparison to the previous model, ASI-F 32/12, this module produces nearly three times as much output, offering 86 watts to start with. Thanks to its design and dimensions, it is easy to install and particularly well-suited for large roofs and open surfaces in industrial and rural areas, but also stand-alone installations. With the introduction of the ASI F-90 an alternative module will be available to the market that is also ideally suited for off-grid usage.

Algeria plans to make use of its hot southern desert to develop solar power for export and domestic consumption, the OPEC member country said on Monday.  The scheme is due to be completed by 2015 in Africa’s second-largest country, where most of the 33 million peopele live in the northern coastal strip. Temperatures in the desert south are high.

Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan Motor Co. will install 606 solar panels at its Barcelona vehicle plant by the end of this summer. The new initiative complements other programs either already in place at or planned for other Nissan facilities, including six wind turbines at its UK-based Sunderland plant and 732 panels slated for installation this summer at its light commercial vehicle plant in Avila, Spain.

Largest solar plant in Africa opens

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has inaugurated Africa’s biggest solar energy plant.  The facility, which is installed at Jali hill in Gasabo District, was funded by the German state through a company called Stadtwerke Mainz and Rhineland-Palatinate citizens, the New Times in Kigali reported.  At the launch of the facility, Kagame said there would not have been a better way to mark 25 years of cooperation between Rwanda and Germany.
